2014 Nationals Update

USA Volleyball Nationals were held in Minneapolis, MN from June 24-July 3 and Elevation qualified 4 teams.  13 Maher finished 7th in 13 Open gathering wins over Mad Frog (TX), A5 (Atlanta), Gainesville (Fla), and Lonestar (TX) losing a close challenge match to Northern Lights on day 3 which would have guaranteed them a podium appearance and spot in the final 4 on Sunday.  14 Burke finished 15th in 14 Open after battling through a very tough initial pool that had 3 of the final 4 teams in the Gold bracket all lumped together.  The team notched wins over Sunshine (CA), Skyline (TX), Laguna Beach (CA), and St. Louis CYC before losing to H2 St. Louis in bracket play.  15 Hammond went 4-6 on the week finishing 34th out of 48 while 12 Bergheger went 6-3 placing them 13th out of 48.  A 3 set loss to Mad Frog (TX) on Day 3 knocked the team out of the Gold Bracket after winning game 1 and leading game 2 much of the way.

AAU Nationals were also held in Orlando Florida June 16-24.  Elevation sent 8 teams for the 2014 championships.  In 4 age groups Elevation placed the highest of any club in Ohio.  Our U16 age group was an impressive 19-4 on the week with wins over perennial powers Union (KY), Legacy (MI), A5 (Atlanta), Nebraska Elite, Woodland Wave (TX), and PVA from Kansas City.  Here’s a look at each team’s finish.

12 Shircliff – 17th out of 68
13 Tyler – 31st out of 108
14 Korfhagen – 10th out of 69

Mike Seibert passes away at 61

Mike Seibert, a man dedicated to the sport of volleyball and the development of young people his entire life has died of an apparent heart attack while jogging Saturday evening.  Mike will be missed by so many who were touched by his passion for our sport and our kids.  It would be impossible to put into words the impact that Mike has had at Sports Express and we are so lucky to have had such a positive role model in our building.  Please keep his family in your prayers.

The Elevation volleyball family is looking to have an informal gathering to remember Mike.  This will be open to all who knew him.  We just started a Facebook page for Coach Seibert called “Celebrating Seibert”.  Please feel free to contribute to this page and we’ll go add information about a gathering and memorial of some sort as the Facebook page grows.  Pictures are particularly needed as well as your thoughts.

Additionally, we need parents and coaches to contribute to the news release section.  Would love to see a picture and a small story about how your team did over the weekend.  Please email John Paul Case at info@sportsexpressvb.com for a username and password for posting.  Thanks for your help.
